Peter and the Starcatcher
During my student teaching experience at Cedar Park Middle School, I directed a production of Peter and the Starcatcher. The process allowed me to apply the directing, rehearsal techniques, and theatre education practices I developed while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. I coordinated rehearsals, staged and blocked the production, and worked with student actors to develop strong character choices and clear storytelling on stage.
Throughout the rehearsal process, I guided students as they explored the imaginative and playful style of the show, helping them build confidence as performers while collaborating with the crew to bring the story to life. The experience was both creatively and professionally meaningful, as it allowed me to step into the role of director while still learning and growing as an educator.
Even though it was my first time directing a full production, the students and the Cedar Park Middle School community were incredibly supportive throughout the process. Their encouragement, enthusiasm, and hard work made the experience a memorable and formative step in my journey as a theatre educator and director, so much so that I quickly decided to continue my teaching career full time at CPMS!
