The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
For Cedar Park Middle School’s UIL One Act Play production of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, I served as Assistant Director and played an active role in guiding both the artistic and technical development of the production. During rehearsals, I worked closely with student actors on scene exploration, character relationships, and performance choices, helping them build confidence and develop performances that clearly communicated the emotional arc of the story.
I also contributed to the design and technical side of the production. I designed the costumes and worked alongside our student costume crew as they constructed and assembled the final pieces. In addition, I designed the lighting and mentored our student lighting technicians as they learned to program cues that helped shape the mood and visual storytelling of the play. Throughout the rehearsal process, I supported the coordination of rehearsals and production planning, and during the UIL contest I facilitated our official one-hour rehearsal to help ensure the company was prepared and focused.
The production found great success at competition, earning First Place at both the Zone and District UIL contests. Students were also recognized with multiple individual honors, including two Best Performer awards, Best Technical Crew, and several All-Star Cast and Honorable Mention All-Star Cast recognitions. The experience was a wonderful opportunity to watch students challenge themselves artistically while collaborating as a team to bring the story to life.
