This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing
For Cedar Park Middle School’s UIL One Act Play production of This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing, I served as Assistant Director and supported the development of both the performers and the technical elements of the production. I worked closely with student actors during rehearsals, leading scene work and helping students explore character relationships, objectives, and storytelling choices that strengthened their performances.
Alongside my work with the cast, I designed the costumes for the production and collaborated with our student costume crew to bring those designs to life. I also designed the lighting and guided our student lighting crew through the process of programming cues that helped establish the tone and environment of the show. In addition, I assisted in organizing rehearsals and production logistics, and during the UIL contest I led our official one-hour rehearsal to help ensure that students felt focused, prepared, and confident going into their performance.
The production had a strong showing at competition, earning First Place at the Zone contest and First Runner-Up at District. Students also received numerous individual honors, including Best Performer, two Best Overall Technician awards, Best Technical Crew, and several All-Star Cast and Honorable Mention All-Star Cast recognitions. It was incredibly rewarding to watch our students’ hard work come together on stage and to see their dedication and collaboration recognized through their success at competition.
